Movie hosts on
early TV wore many hats, from a pitchman to a pal, a movie trivia buff to an
evening date, not to mention being a concerned local citizen. Early hosts focused
more on the pitchman aspects while by the late 60's and 70's we find them offering
community services, homes for puppies and other civic duties inbetween their movie breaks. It was a very
popular format, no matter the style or content of the program and it's host. Today, channels like AMC or TMC still utilize
the movie host concept. This format helps bring in a higher level of interest
along with a friendly demeanor and historical knowledge that creates broader
appreciation among viewers. The majority of LA's TV movie hosts only gimmick was just in being themselves. Their personality was enough of a pull to have you tune in each show no matter what was playing. |
